Early Years Foundation Stage

We would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a very warm welcome to Malorees Infant and Junior school. We look forward to getting to know all our families and working in partnership with you throughout the year.
At Malorees School, we offer a curriculum which is broad, balanced and which builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all children, whatever their starting points.
Our early years curriculum considers the needs and interests of our pupils – so that everyone can reach their full potential within a happy, stimulating and secure environment.
The curriculum is designed using a cross-curricular themed approach, as we know this enables our children to make connections across their learning, leading to deeper learning experiences so that this is both purposeful and meaningful. We plan around high-quality core texts to provide an engaging context for learning.
Nursery and Reception children will begin to take home a story book to share with their adults at home. In addition to this, Reception children will take home a reading book matched to their phonic knowledge. Please ensure your child has a book bag that is brought in daily so we are able to provide new books to take home. We encourage you to read with your child every day.
Below are some useful links to games you can play at home to promote early reading and phonics skills.

Children will have opportunities to develop their physical skills through play in our outdoor classroom. Additional to this, children in Reception will have the opportunity to develop their fine motor skills and gross motor skills through sessions such as ‘Disco Dough’ and ‘ Group games’.
