Malorees School

The Kilburn Cosmos MAKE SURE THE NUMbers add up for Malorees

A huge thank you to local rugby heroes, the Kilburn Cosmos, who today came to school to teach children in both the Infant & Junior Schools all about rugby and help raise money for Mathletics for every child in both schools.

The Cosmos team spent a morning teaching all 450 children how to throw and catch before Mr Cleary, PE Lead, set two-minute ‘catch and count’ challenges, which parents and friends of the school sponsored. The pupils scored bonus points for correct answer of maths questions based on their scores.

Aidan Quinn of the Cosmos (pictured above with a Year 5 class) explained:

“Rugby is a fantastic sport for children. It’s great exercise but it can also help with self-confidence, appreciation of team-work, discipline and……we now know it can also help you with your maths! We were delighted to help today and encourage any children to come down to our super-friendly Sunday mornings in Gladstone Park".

Sian Davies, Executive Head, Malorees Infant & Junior School added:

“Our children love sport and play tag rugby and this was a great way to help raise money for Mathletics at the same time.

A huge thank you to the Cosmos and to all the parents and carers who have so kindly donated to our campaign.

We have now raised £3,900 towards our target of £5,000 to purchase Mathletics  for the next three years. We are delighted that we are close to enabling all our children in both schools to access a range of mathematical games and activities to enjoy at home whilst strengthening what they are learning at school.''

The school invites other potential sponsors at www.bit.ly/maloreesmaths.

The Cosmos invite boys and girls of all ages to join their Sunday morning fun sessions in Gladstone Park.

The new season begins in September.
